2018 Toyota 4Runner Review

In need of a vehicle that somehow satisfies both the city-going work schedule you have Monday through Friday, in addition to rough-roading capability for all your weekend adventures? Well, we’re here to tell you that a vehicle like that does exist, and near you!

The 2018 Toyota 4Runner is of the most sought-after SUVs in San Diego, Kearny Mesa, and El Cajon right now because of its combined power, capability, and advanced features. This review will cover some, but not nearly all, of the incredible aspects of the new 4Runner, starting with one of the most important: safety.

Toyota 4Runner Safety

The 2018 4Runner is stacked from top to bottom with safety features that work together to keep you and your passengers safe.

One very intriguing feature that comes standard with the new 4Runner is its Star Safety System™. This system is a battery of advanced safety features that includes Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Anti-Lock Brake System, Smart Stop Technology®, Brake Assist and Electronic Brake-Force Distribution.

The latter of these features, the Electronic Brake-force Distribution technology, works like an advanced anti-lock braking system that’s designed for instances of hard braking. The redistribution of the brake force between the four wheels of the vehicle even when the vehicle is shifting weights prevents the brakes from locking up.

Off-Road-Ready Performance

This year’s Toyota 4Runner comes standard with a 4.0L V6 engine that puts out 270 horsepower and 278 lb-ft torque. This engine provides an EPA-estimated 17 city/21 highway/18 combined MPG* and is considered a Low Emission Vehicle II. Also, standard is the 5-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drivetrain with automatic limited-slip differential.

The TRD Off-Road trim, the highest 4Runner trim level, offers many available features that turn this vehicle into an off-roading machine. Among these features is its electronically controlled locking rear differential, Multi-terrain Select, and Crawl Control.

Crawl Control is designed to alleviate some of the pressure of having to maintain acceleration and braking on difficult terrain while trying to focus on steering. This technology assists the driver by taking the reins on the acceleration and braking fronts so the driver only has to worry about steering.

4Runner Technology Features

In the safety section, we touched on a few of the 2018 Toyota 4Runner’s technology features geared towards safety. However, there are many more technology features that play as hard as the safety features work.Car Lot

This model comes standard with the Entune™ Audio Plus Multimedia Bundle which includes a 6.1-inch high-resolution touchscreen display and a Connected Navigation App. Play your favorite CDs through this system’s eight speaks, plug into the auxiliary audio jack, or stream music using Bluetooth® technology.

The Connected Navigation Scout® GPS Link App allows you to find directions using a cellphone or a voice-activated search and directions are then projected on the Entune™ screen for you to follow while you’re driving.

Other technology features that come standard in the new 4Runner include five USB ports dispersed throughout the vehicle, in-key remote keyless entry, and a leather-trimmed steering wheel equipped with audio, Bluetooth® hands-free phone and voice-command controls.
